I had high hopes for Aion most beautiful game I've ever seen next to GW. But it was not to be I guess.
Ok I play EQ2, (tried Aion), and GW. Yes I keep coming back and maybe it is most nostalgia but I also see some old names popping up on my friends list again so I'm not the only one
Also there is a very old game that was a single player and was for a short time more then once an online game. Myst online: URU live. It just opened up again and has a lot of faithful fans. It's been down 2 years and people flocked back to it. Don't underestimate true fans of any game.
GW will be here a few more years I think unless ANET shuts it down.
Tsk Tsk wanting to autopsy and bury something that's still alive

True fans stay when the game stays true to it's roots. Right now, Guild Wars is a really long way from it's roots.
Again, in 10 years from now, Guild Wars will be remember for the amazing PvP it had the first year, and the astonishing graphics at that time.
There simply isn't anything else that is attractive in GW at this point in time. You wanna do PvE? WoW has much more to offer. You want a no-grind game? You can always play any form of non-grind RPG.
Point is, GW in it's current state is best played as a RPG, and there's still so many better ones out there.
Nostalgia and GW2 are the only reasons I can imagine to still play GW at this time. (PvE anyways) Anyone who admits he still has fun playing Guild Wars can but admit that any other grind game is fun aswell, because that's the only thing left to do in GW. Grind titles, points, etc.

Uru : Ages beyond myst! i have played that quirky game almost to the end offline. Thats the perfect example of something designed as a single player game and for online interaction that stayed so long offline - went online- then back offline - then.. still i can't imagine what would people do together when joining in the game. It must be something totally different from the usual MMO experience!
P.S. the camera control was atrocious !

I have 100+ level 40 toons in Neverwinter Nights. All of them are geared up to hell, I have hundreds of millions worth of gear..Now THAT, is grind. What can I say? I love grind. Love it. As long as I get to learn through it, and my characters grow, I'm happy.
Someone asked in a previous page if anyone could name any 20+year old games they still play, well, I can't. See, I cbf writing down names of over 60 snes games alone, then there's the megadrive, coleco and also emulators for all 3, and about 1800 Mame roms. Obviously I can't possibly play em all at once, but they all get love. There's nostalgia working for u right there.
Oh, and let's not forget the fact that most pre-3d games up to and including the 16 bit console era, were actually good, fun, and felt like they were actually going somewhere. Something generally lacking in most of today's games. I think that GW's fast and frantic pace echoes that gamestyle in a way, and it's a much better game for it.
